Wu Tang Clan Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 2 (Enter the Dubstep)

Released: 13th October 2009

This is the type of thing that this blog's about. 19 tracks from everyone's favourite New York hip-hop supergroup spliced up with grimy British dubstep.

I haven't heard Wu Tang Clan Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 1, nor have I done any research into what it contains, but I doubt it comes close to equally the brilliance of a few of the tracks on this. Dubstep and hip-hop are made for one another, and there are few dubstep reinventions likely to draw on superior source material to an album of Wu Tang Clan remixes.

Any project that throws together a rag-tag bunch of producers like this is always going to be of somewhat variable quality, and a quick look at the list of contributors isn't likely to quicken the pulse of too many dubstep-heads. While there aren't any really big names amongst the producers contributing to this reinterpretation of classic Wu, some of the remixes are really top quality.

There's the malfunctioning Gameboy vibe of 'Now or Never'; the beautiful trip of 'Love Don't Cost a Thing'; the heavy bomblast of 'Deep Space'; the wobbly brilliance of 'Biochemical Equation', which you may well be listening to as you read this. After listening to the blistering quality of these remixes, it becomes clear that these producer's lack of name value isn't any real reflection of their abilities.

Stand Out Tracks
Deep Space (feat. Lord Jamar & RZA) [Jay Da Flex & Yoof Remix]Deep Space (Jay Da Flex & Yoof Remix) [feat. Lord Jamar & RZA] - Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture, Vol. 2: Enter the Dubstep
The opening track is a proper dancefloor banger.
Love Don't Cost a Thing (feat. Icewater, Method Man, U-God & Prodigal Son) [Nebulla & Dore Remix]
Considerably more chilled, 'Love Don't Cost a Thing' is the most blissed out remix on the album.
Coke (feat. U-God & Raekwon) [Dz Remix]Coke (DZ Remix) [feat. U-God & Raekwon] - Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture, Vol. 2: Enter the Dubstep
A good primer for dubstep for anyone whose only had their interest in the genre piqued by Wu Tang Clan's journey to the wobbly side. Proper party tune.
Let's Get It (feat. Raekwon, DJ Paul & Icewater)[Evol Intent Remix] Let's Get It (Evol Intent Remix) [feat. Raekwon, DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia & Icewater] - Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture, Vol. 2: Enter the Dubstep
Possibly the heaviest thing on the CD. Massive bass line.
